With its 850km stretch of beautiful scenery, Route 62 is considered one of the longest wine route in the world.
Going on a drive through the iconic Route 62 is like stepping into a living landscape painting. This route gives everything you could ask for, from the amazing wildlife, gorgeous faunas and picture perfect landscape.
The Warmwaterberg hot spring spa
For me, no trip on the Route 62 is complete without a day stop at the Warmwaterberg hot Springs. The natural hot spring pools, known for it’s mineral-rich water makes it an ideal place to stop, relax and recharge, even if it’s only for a night.
Spending a day here, soaking under the wide-open sky, is a great way to break up my journey.
Time slows down, allowing me full absorb the natural beauty and be more present in my trip.
It remembers me that I’m here to experience and yield to the natural beauty and the calming symphony of nature.
Sanbona game reserve
Less than an hour from Warmwaterberg, the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is the next stop. Deep in the Little Karoo and covering an area of 58,000 hectares, this game reserve is a must-see for wildlife enthusiasts.
You can spot the Big Five (lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants, and Cape buffaloes) in their natural habitat.
I suggest booking a minimum of 2-day for your stay here. That gives you about 4 drives. Plenty of opportunities to find all your favorites.

Having a private car made my trip a much better experience. Being able to slow down when I want to or speed up when if I so desire was great.
There’s nothing better than exploring at your own pace, as opposed to following a rigid schedule of a tour.
And better still, renting a car from local car owners through a carsharing platform made it better because I was able to pick and choose the exact model I needed for my trip.
It didn’t hurt that I was able to support local owners who earn from renting their cars to travellers like me.
